YUKI MINAMI ran TRANSPLANT GALLERY from 525 West 29th Street, 2nd Floor, in Chelsea, from November 2004 to June 24, 2005. These photos document the last day. TRANSPLANT, June 24, 2005

The TRANSPLANT banner. The logo design typified Yuki's cutting edge eye & intelligence. TRANSPLANT showed Japanese artists of all generations, united in their talent, unique visions & skills. Transplant's first gallery location, opening back in October 2003, was at 139 Orchard St, also on the 2nd floor, on the Lower East Side. TRANSPLANT, June 24, 2005

YUKI MINAMI, 33 yrs old, on the last day of her gallery's New York existence. She moved back to Japan, and is supposedly looking to re-establish TRANSPLANT in Japan. She didn't seem truthfully, very happy to be leaving, although it was also said that she was returning to be married. The New York art scene is now at a loss, as there is no one who can readily take her place. A publishing art critic/journalist, as well as a dealer, she brought the cutting edge Japanese scene to New York. TRANSPLANT, June 24, 2005

YUKI MINAMI, a gracious hostess tends the bar. Very reserved, and very formal in that Japanese manner that eludes New Yorkers, still, one could catch glimpses of her many sides, without actually being invited too... This was the 2nd to last opening at TRANSPLANT, 'COLOR OF EMPTY SKY' - Takagi Masakatsu + Saeko Takagi, (see Art Lovers Photos archive: 2005-08-31). This show's poster was so beautiful, for a while it was hung on everybody's wall or fridge. TRANSPLANT, April 29, 2005

YUKI MINAMI. as well as exhibits, TRANSPLANT offered artist-made merchandise, T-shirts, hats, and hard to find books & magazines, usually of Japanese origin. This photo was taken during the Spring 2005 exhibit of the Japanese artist known as EYE. TRANSPLANT, April 13, 2005

on the wall, in the middle section, behind the gallery proper, a felt pen drawing by DAISUKE NISHIMURA, whom Yuki classifed, without reservation, as a 'genius', and whose work her gallery exhibited. TRANSPLANT, June 24, 2005

Daisuke is also both the Japan Managing Editor of TOKION magazine & their very inspired web master. . the animated graphics are startling, instantly fleeting little black birds spark out of thin, minimalist black lines, (see: www.tokion.com) TRANSPLANT, June 24, 2005
