the speaker is: GABRIELLE ESPERDY, associate professor of architecture, New Jersey Institute of technology, NEWARK.
“How do architects recycle industrial detritus into new buildings that are aesthetically inventive and ideologically charged ? This talk will examine recent work, including projects by LOT-EK, Single Speed Design, and Rural Studio, as well as significant historical examples from ancient Rome to the 1960s that demonstrate how trained designers and self-taught builders have confronted the dilemma of waste.” (press release)
