~CATTELAN’S ‘HITLER’ goes for $17.2 MILLION . . CHRISTIE’S
MAURIZIO CATTELAN’S . . . ‘HIM’ – HITLER ON HIS KNEES, WENT FOR $17.2 MILLION at a CHRISTIE’S CONTEMPORARY ART AUCTION, YESTERDAY – SUN MAY 8, 2016.
a sweet vindication for the few loudmouth dissenters, [and Cattelan, lol] . . including most notably myself, and RANDY KENNEDY – who were the very very few who wrote in favor of Cattelan’s superlatively brilliant, ‘hanging’ retrospective – which took place at the GUGGENHEIM, titled: ‘ALL’ . . in the winter of 2011.
and in which ‘HIM’ . . hung.
the leader of the downer pack was ROBERTA SMITH, who not only trashed the exhibit, but said something to the effect . . that it was a “career destroyer”.
I have just 3 words for Roberta Smith: RACHEL HARRISON, who ?

CATTELAN, ‘DONKEY’ . . and a view of the incredible CATTELAN retrospective, titled ‘ALL’ . . that took place at the GUGGENHEIM, NYC – winter of 2011.
and which saw all, and I mean, everyone of his pieces hung from the ceiling of the museum.
one of the best museum shows, ever !!

you can read MY rant – in favor of it, here: ‘a rat’s ass’
of course.
I was an early supporter of Cattelan’s, I posted the FIRST mainstream photos of him – on artnet.
here are 2 other early ones, from way back, 2005 – when I was still using a 35mm camera.
Cattelan . . what a natural-born clown.
what a showman. but, also . . a ‘picturesque’ & prophetic voice – on the state of the world, as it has turned, sour.
no doubt.
these photos below were posted to artloversnewyork.com . . . right after I broke off from the mothership i.e. artnet, for holding me – back. lol, Walter Robinson bite your lip. he fired me. quelle joke. I “brought in too many unknown musician photos”.
name names ? lol, DEVENDRA BANHART. I kid you, not.
in fact, I just read in the Wall Street Journal, this very morning . . re the ROLLING STONES, that the secret to their success & maybe your’s too – is to “break from the anchor when it starts to drag you under”.
. . . no truer words, ever.
MAURIZIO CATTELAN . . waves my new, indie artlovernewyork.com business card in my face.

way to go, CATTELAN.
CA-CHING.
